Abstract, sculpted and painted by Kim Kei

Kim Kei

Whether in the form of a sculpture or painting, organic shapes grow unbounded in Kim Kei’s artwork. The LA-based artist incorporates found objects into her abstract sculptures, creating a medley of textures and colors swirling across our view. Sometimes iridescent shapes are contoured with neon string. Other times, pastel pinks and blues are adorned with small batches of spheres nestled along their folds.

Kei’s process begins by combining and altering everyday objects and natural debris into malleable sculptures. They’re then photographed in several iterations and become the foundation for her paintings. According to her website, “her intricate, improvised compositions exist somewhere between representation and abstraction. Her work is a departure from the figure as a form, yet in its absence the body is implied.” [h/t emptykingdom.com]
